Wildgate – Pilot Your Crew, Claim the Artifact

Wildgate is an upcoming PvPvE multiplayer shooter that blends tactical ship-to-ship combat with fast-paced first-person action. Developed by Moonshot Games, a studio within Dreamhaven (founded by former Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime), also acts as the publisher for the game, Wildgate is set to release on July 22, 2025 to PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with an open beta set for June 9–16 during Steam Next Fest.

Wildgate is a team-based FPS game where you and your teammates act as a crew of a weird spaceship. You can upgrade your ship, defend it from the other players who attack you, and also attack and loot other ships. The game features five different kinds of ships from which you can choose any one and then upgrade it to its absolute best. You can fight along with your teammates or with the weaponry on your spaceship.

Gameplay and Setting

Gameplay and Setting

The game unfolds in a dangerous, ever-changing area of space where players, known as Prospectors, battle for valuable Artifacts and resources. This vast realm of discovery and explosions is a procedurally generated map developed skillfully by the developers and modellers known as Reach. Each match in the Reach is unique, with randomly placed locations, encounters, and hazards. The ships and weapons are way ahead in development, like laser beams, guns and cannons using plasma technology, etc.

Players choose their prospector from a variety of different prospectors, each wielding unique tools like stealth drones, hacking devices, or explosive gear. Whether you're the pilot, boarder, or scout, your team needs your role. After selecting the prospector, players team up in a squad of four and board a spaceship. As the game starts, they find themselves in the Reach, where many other squads are willing to engage in a fight for survival.

The game offers ship-to-ship battles that can be fought between ships of two more squads, where the best comes out victorious and the losing ones become the loot for the ones they lost to.

Besides ship-to-ship combats, the game also offers thrilling and tense close-range on-foot battles in first-person view, where the players board the other squad's ship and engage in a fierce battle with the crew of that ship. This on-foot combat can also occur when other squads enter your ship to attack you.

You need to survive till the end to grab the win. Either you flee the battleground due to lack of resources and loot the destroyed ships for them, or eliminate all the enemy squads you face, or find the Artifact, a valuable object that allows for escape, for the win, it's up to your own battle style. However, when you engage in a combat, there are only two rules to win: outrun or outgun.

Artifact

The combat style is very advanced, where the damage done and suffered is properly visible. The game also includes various points of interest that provide challenges and rewards. The difficulty of these points of interest can be adjusted to alter the reward. Moreover, the players can also harvest resources like red and blue space rocks, which are used to fuel the ship's boost and cool down its core.

The summary of all the gameplay elements is as follows:

  • Players embark on missions to find the Artifact, a valuable object that allows for escape.
  • They can also choose to eliminate rival crews, with the last crew standing declared the winner.
  • The game includes various points of interest, such as Monoliths and Vaults, that offer challenges and rewards.
  • Points of interest may have modifiers that increase difficulty and reward quality.
  • Players can harvest resources like red and blue space rocks, which are used to fuel the ship's boost and cool down its core.
  • Ship combat is a key element, with players using cannons, gadgets, and tactical maneuvers to outwit and destroy opponents.
  • Ships can be upgraded with different modules, like fortified doors that can only be opened from the inside.
  • Players can use abilities like turning invisible while on a spaceship.
  • When a ship explodes, nearby ships and players take damage, and all resources from the exploded ship become lootable.
  • Scout drones can be used to prevent sneak attacks.

A Guide to Survival and Legend

The Typhon Reach isn't for the faint of heart, but it's where legends are made—legends like the Gamma Gang. They executed a smash and grab on the Artifact like nobody's ever seen.
When you're in the Reach, you're after one thing: the Artifact, the most valuable object in the known universe. If you're brave or stupid enough to go after it, you won't be alone. Be the first crew to find it, snatch it, and pass through the Wildgate. Or be the last crew left standing.

Your Ship: Your Lifeline
It all starts with your ship. Whether you're mining asteroids, scanning for loot, or battling boarders, the right ship isn't just a choice; it's your edge in the fight to stay alive.
You could go big with the Bastion, packed full of gadgets and guns, but they'll see you coming a light-year away. Or go small with a Hunter. Just don't get caught, because those shields will not last. Remember, your ship is your lifeline. You lose your ride, it's mission over.

Your Crew: All Hands on Deck
Your crew, on the other hand, can handle whatever the Reach throws at them. Armed with the right weapons, tools, and special skills, it's all hands on deck. That's one thing the Gamma Gang understood. It's not about sticking to one job; it's about supporting your crew. Mining for resources, keeping the engines running, putting out fires—every crew member counts. Because when things start to heat up, it's either you or them.

Navigating the Death Trap
The Reach is a living, breathing death trap: cosmic storms, Reach leeches, lava asteroids, and space mines. To get a handle on what's out there, you're going to need to scout ahead. Probes are your best bet to map the area, locate hazards, supplies, and hidden treasures. It's also how the Gamma Gang stayed one step ahead of the other crews.
Fuel and ice are crucial. Without them, the job gets a lot tougher. If your reactor overheats, you'd better have ice on hand to cool it down. And fuel gives your ship the extra boost it needs for a quick getaway. Running out won't leave you stranded, but trust me, without it, you're as good as Reach dust.

The Best Loot and Vicious Surprises
You want to pull this off? You'll need the best loot you can find. All over the Reach are lost caches of cutting-edge ship upgrades, powerful weapons, and gear that gives you the upper hand. But do not get cocky. The better the goods, the tougher they'll be to grab. This place is teeming with vicious little surprises. Grab what you can and make it quick, because those other prospectors could crash the party at any moment.
Which reminds me: watch your back. Those rival squads will try to board your ship. Keep your guns loaded and your multi-tools ready to repair. They'll do everything they can to try to sabotage you. Don't let them.

The Big Score and the Unexpected
Now, back to the big score: the Artifact. You never know where it'll pop up or what kinds of hell you'll have to go through to get it. Many prospectors went in that day, but only the Gamma Gang came out. But it wasn't over yet. They made a mad dash for the Wildgate, and the other crews were hot on their tail, which brings us back here.
The Gamma Gang did make it to the Wildgate, but I never said they made it through. They had the guns, the fuel, the upgrades. The plan was perfect. Or so they thought. Because there was one thing they didn't expect...
Me.
That's the Reach, kid. I didn't play fair. But you don't have to either. Because out here, the only plan that counts is the one you make up on the fly.
