Louisiana Sues Roblox as Schlep Ban Fuels Safety Debate

BATON ROUGE, La. — August 14, 2025 — Roblox is under pressure on two fronts: a lawsuit from the state of Louisiana and public backlash over its ban of a popular YouTuber who exposed predators on the platform. Together, the cases raise hard questions about how well Roblox protects its youngest players.
The Lawsuit
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed suit accusing Roblox of leaving children exposed to predators by skipping solid age checks and parental oversight. She called it “the perfect place for pedophiles” and said the company puts profits ahead of safety.
The complaint cites real incidents, including one in Livingston Parish where a man allegedly used voice-altering software to pose as a teen girl and attempt to groom minors. Murrill wants the court to block Roblox from claiming its current safeguards are enough, and she has even floated shutting the platform down.
Roblox disagrees. The company points to investments in AI monitoring, strict content moderation, and new video-based age checks for teens. Earlier this year, it said it flagged 1,200 potential child exploitation cases to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The Schlep Ban
At the same time, Roblox is facing anger over its treatment of Schlep, a YouTuber with more than a million subscribers. Known for staging sting-style operations against suspected predators, Schlep says his work helped police arrest six people.
Roblox shut him down, issuing a cease-and-desist letter that accused him of breaking rules by simulating child endangerment, directing users off-platform, and sharing personal data. The company argues that vigilante tactics are unsafe and undermine its official reporting systems.
Fans and creators didn’t take it well. Hashtags like #FreeSchlep and #BoycottRoblox trended, and well-known figures such as MoistCr1TiKal, JiDeon, and KreekCraft criticized the company. Some developers even pulled out of Roblox’s content programs in protest.

Bigger Names Step In
The fight has pulled in outside voices. Chris Hansen, best known for To Catch a Predator, announced he’s investigating Roblox with Schlep’s help. Meanwhile, Rep. Ro Khanna launched a petition demanding stronger protections for kids on the platform.
The fallout has also reached Wall Street. Roblox’s stock dropped more than 10 percent after news of the lawsuit and ban spread.
A Wider Problem
The dispute comes against a troubling backdrop. Reports of child exploitation on Roblox have risen sharply, from 675 in 2019 to more than 24,000 in 2024, according to Wired. Despite new AI tools and verification systems, critics argue predators still find ways in.
What’s Next
Louisiana’s case may be the start of something bigger. If more states follow with their own lawsuits, Roblox—and other platforms with young users—could face tougher oversight.
For now, Roblox is standing by its safety efforts, while parents, policymakers, and players wait to see if that’s enough.
