Developed and published by Remedy Entertainment, FBC: Firebreak is a 3-player cooperative FPS where the players will delve into the secrets of the mysterious Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). The setting of this game is six years after the events of Control, another title by Remedy Entertainment. This game revolves around a special unit of soldiers named Firebreak. This is the first multiplayer game released by Remedy, and it is set to release on 17 June 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S.

FBC: Firebreak is a cooperative first-person shooter set within a mysterious federal agency under assault by otherworldly forces. As a years-long siege on the agency’s headquarters reaches its boiling point, only Firebreak— the Bureau’s most versatile unit—has the gear and the guts to plunge into the building’s strangest crises, restore order, and blast their way back from the brink.

Story and Setting

Story and Setting

The game is set 6 years after the events that took place in Control, another game released by Remedy Entertainment. The game takes place within the enigmatic Oldest House, the impossibly strange extradimensional headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control.

Six years ago, the Oldest House was invaded by a hostile force known as the Hiss. In response, the FBC instated an emergency lockdown, trapping the hiss inside and turning the entire building into one giant crisis zone. The players will be playing as a member of the Firebreak initiative, a group of brave first responders who volunteer to take on the weirdest and the deadliest crises threatening the Oldest House.

After remaining quarantined for about 6 years, The Oldest House has gone through many transformations. These transformations have made its environment hostile and unveiled. The order of this Headquarters has crumbled and no-one dared to engage with the Hiss and get the territory of the Oldest House back. No-one except the FBC's most adaptable response unit, The Firebreak, had the skills and courage to restore order in the Oldest House.

As it enters the place, the Firebreak team explores some extradimensional calamities waiting for them in the headquarters. It is now up to only 3 armed soldiers to conquer back the Oldest House and do the job that the whole army was unable to do in 6 years.

Gameplay

and Mechanics

Gameplay and Mechanics

FBC: Firebreak is a first-person shooter game that provides the pov of a soldier who is a part of the most elite quick response force of the FBC, The Firebreak, as he, along with his two fellow soldiers, faces the hostile and deadly challenges thrown at them by the Hiss. This is the first ever multiplayer game released by Remedy Entertainment, which utilizes a 3-player gameplay as a team.

After selecting the jobs and kits, the team Firebreak will arrive by service elevator to the job site, where the players will be tasked with clearing a number of crisis zones depending on the clearance you selected. To clear zones, players will work on their unique objectives and use their tool to efficiently repair broken machines like the shower, which is key to healing the team and removing harmful conditions. Or to charge batteries like the one that lights up the ammo station, letting the team resupply faster. Or to douse the flames that buff the enemies. And interestingly, sometimes light the teammates on fire.

Once all of the zone's objectives are completed, the players will be able to open a containment door and proceed deeper into the crisis. As more crises are put down, More and more Hiss will be attracted to the area, sometimes including dangerous enemies that trigger job site lockdown until exterminated.

During combat, it is especially important for all the teammates to group up, as the team's resonance shields will become amplified while they're sticking together. And if any of the team members have upgraded perks equipped, the whole team will be able to share their effects using that same system. Upgradeable guns and grenades are the best options for pure damage, but tools add a lot of utility to a fight, allowing the players to stun, knockback, or escape the hiss when things get intense.

Each kit comes with its own altered augment, an extremely dangerous paranormal item that charges up over time, allowing the players to deploy massive amounts of combat power during critical moments. However, these augments are also dangerous for the Firebreak, as if not handled properly, they can even harm the user and his teammates.

When playing a job with corruption turned on, the players will soon discover that not all altered items are under Firebreak’s control. Firebreak will encounter various corrupted items during these jobs, which significantly modify the experience while active. Anything from causing corpses to explode, to lowering the gravity. Corrupted items aren't affected by bullets or explosions, but can be chased away by a black rock neutralizer.

Evacuation will be triggered once the final objective is completed. A large number of Hiss will descend onto the job site and resist the Firebreak from making it back to the service elevator in one piece. Getting out alive is no easy task, and sometimes the players will face difficult decisions like when to rescue crewmates in trouble and when to cut losses.

Back at firebreak HQ, the players will have the chance to put whatever they collected to good use. Unlocking or upgrading equipment and perks, or picking up new cosmetics to customize the Firebreaker. There are worlds more to discover inside the Oldest House when you and your friends play for yourselves.

  4. Crisis Kits & Research Perks:
Choose from three specialist loadouts—Fix (melee/repair), Jump (electric mobility), Splash (water support)—and further customize with perks and powerful Altered Items during your run.
  5. Paranatural Chaos:
Enjoy Remedy’s signature surreal style, with explosive pink goo, floating desks, and random weaponized objects, paired with approachable co‑op gameplay lacking grind mechanics.

Crisis and Jobs

During the operation of freeing the Headquarters from the Hiss, the team Firebreak faces many challenges and crises. Every crisis appears in the game as a different job for Firebreak. These jobs function like game modes that can be customized in three ways.

  1. Clearance, which affects the length of the session.
  2. Corruption, which affects the sessions, modifications and randomization.
  3. Threat, which affects the combat intensity.

Taking on longer and more challenging jobs will lead to greater opportunities and rewards.

Next, it's time to choose one of three crisis kits for your Firebreaker to take into the field.

  1. The splash kit, which is good for extinguishing fires and removing harmful conditions from your friends.
  2. The jump kit, which focuses on mobility and charging electrical devices,
  3. The fix kit, which excels at knocking back enemies and repairing machinery.

Each of these kits is a saved loadout, featuring a defined set of specialized gear and whatever gun, grenade, and set of perks you think suits its playstyle best.
