FBC: Firebreak - A Paranatural Co‑Op Shooter in the Control Universe
FBC: Firebreak

FBC: Firebreak – Developed and published by Remedy Entertainment, FBC: Firebreak is a 3-player cooperative third-person shooter in which players will uncover clandestine activities within the mysterious Federal Bureau of Control. The game takes place six years after the events in Control, another game from Remedy Entertainment. The game is based on a group of soldiers called Firebreak. Remedy’s first multiplayer game Control: Ascent is scheduled to come out on 17 June 2025, for PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S.

Story and Setting

Story and Setting

The game takes place 6 years after those that happened in Control, another game developed by Remedy Entertainment. The game unfolds inside the mysterious Oldest House, the impossible weird extradimensional headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Control.

The Oldest House was invaded by a hostile force known as the Hiss, six years ago. In retaliation, the FBC initiated an emergency lock-down to contain the hiss within and transmuting the whole building into a gigantic crisis zone. Here, the players will step into the shoes of a member of the Firebreak initiative, “a new human organization.” This group of courageous first responders voluntarily tackle some of the weirdest and most dangerous crises found within OOP (Out-Of-Place) Object world events in the Oldest House.

After marinating in quarantine for roughly six years, The Oldest House changed a lot. These changes have rendered its habitat both hostile and exposed. The Hiss has come to in this order and no one could put up a fight against it and take the land of the Oldest House back. No-one could but the FBC's most expedient response unit, The Firebreak.

It is the Firebreak crew that ventures into some extradimensional disasters waiting for them in the headquarters, as they come to the place. Only 3 armed soldiers remain to retake the Oldest House and complete a mission that no other soldier in their right mind can do in 6 years.

Gameplay

and Mechanics

Gameplay and Mechanics

FBC: Firebreak is a Fast-Paced 3 man squad FPS, Focused on The POV of 1 soldier, A member of the most prestigious quick response force in the FBC, The Firebreak and its battle with Hiss where they navigate through the hostile environment thrown at them by Hiss. The game is Remedy's first multi-player game, it has a 3 player co-op with shifting individuals and collective abilities.

Once you’ve chosen your jobs and kits, our fantastic team Firebreak will come to the job site from a service lift, and players must work in teams to cover as many crisis zones (how many according to how much clearance you purchased) as they can. To reclaim zones, they will build towards a common purpose and use their tool to fix damaged machines including the case shower that’s so essential during combat healing teammates and providing beneficial status condition removals. Or, if you prefer, to recharge batteries such as the one that powers the ammo station’s lights so a team can resupply more quickly. Or to dampen the flames that buff the enemies. And, interestingly enough, occasionally set the teammates on fire.

After finishing all the objectives within a zone, they will then be able to open the containment door and continue on further into the crisis. * The more crises you clear, the More Hiss is drawn to far, sometimes bringing along for deadly foes that prevent job site lockout until eliminated.

In fights, it’s crucial for all the teammates to stick together since the resonance shields of the team get powered up when everyone is in close proximity. And if the team has any upgraded perks equipped, all members of the team will be able to share those effects through that same system. Guns and grenades that can be upgraded are the closest things to pure damage, but tools inject a lot of utility into a fight, giving players options to stun or knockback or get away from the hiss when things start to get intense.

Included with each are modified augments, highly- dangerous paranormal artifacts that can be built up over time and unleashed to provide a massive swing in combat power in key moments. These modifications are also perilous for the Firebreak, for use without care may even damage the user and his teammates.

Playing a job with corruption enabled, the players quickly learn that not everything tainted is subservient to Firebreak. Firebreak will come across a selection of Corrupted Items in these jobs, each of which will dramatically change the way you play while it’s active. Everything from making corpses blow up, to reducing gravity. Corrupted items are impervious to bullets or explosions, but can be scared away with a black rock neutralizer.

The evac will start when you finish the last objective. A whole lot of Hiss are going to pour into the work site and oppose the Firebreak on its way back up to the service elevator in one piece. Surviving is no enviable task, and players must make difficult decisions about when to save imperiled crewmates and when to cut their losses.

Back at firebreak HQ, the players will then have an opportunity to use whatever they collected. You can unlock better gear and perks, or pick up new cosmetics to give the Firebreaker a personal touch. There’s a world more to discover within the Oldest House when you and your friends play for yourselves.

Crisis and Jobs

During the process of freeing up the Headquarters from Hiss, one team Firebreak encounters numerous challenges and crises. Every crisis comes in the game as a new job for Firebreak. These are the equivalent of game modes that can be customized in three different ways.

  1. Clearance, which affects the length of the session.
  2. Corruption, that influences the rounds, changes and permutations.
  3. The intensity of combat is influenced by Threat.

The longer and more challenging the work you take on, the more opportunity (and reward) finds its way to your door.

Then, you need to select one of three crisis kits your Firebreaker will be taking into the field.

  1. The splash kit, just because its good to put out the flames and bad times of your friends.
  2. Is there anything like the Jump Kit, which is targeted for mobility and charging for electric gadgets?
  3. The fix kit, great for knocking back enemies and fixing the machinery.

Each of these kits is a saved loadout, containing an explicit selection of specialized gear and whatever gun, grenade, set of perks you deem suitable to its playstyle.
