How Players Responded To The Game

I. Game Art style & Storytelling:

One of the most interesting aspects was the heavy character driven emotion in them who share a common goal, despite differing personal motivations. The art direction is inspired by Belle Époque and creates a dreamy mood. The sound and voice acting has been an A1 feature as well.

💬Players Feedback Highlights

  • God this game is incredible the soundtrack, it’s beautiful the combat is phenomenal it cured my burn out of turn based games and most importantly the story is engaging. It made me hope French people existed.
  • “One of the best games I have played in ages. From the outset, I thought it was amazing story-wise and music-wise, but especially with the voice acting, then when you get the hang of combat and learn to parry it becomes that much better.”
  • “Not sure if that’s just my mental state but first 30 minutes made me ugly cry”

II. Combat Design & Gameplay:

Just the mix of traditional turn-based with real-time inputs got players all excited. Players also Mentioned timing on parry and dodge mechanics that raised the bar even higher for those expecting an easy ride. But a few players said the hybris system created a bit of inconsistency and difficulty because of timing problems.

💬Players Feedback Highlights

  • “You have to parry to survive”
  • “then when you’re full up to speed with the combat and parrying down it just gets better and better”
  • “Real-Time-with-Pause Strikes and Counterstrikes require the player to make real-time button selections. If you nail the timing, you can perfectly parry, dodge or power-up your follow-up attack — kind of like with Legend of Dragoon or Paper Mario.
  • “The combat is deeply engaging. It’s easy to see why this is going down as one of the best JRPG games of the current era.”
  • “I just love what they did with the fighting. it gives me vibes of older mario rpgs, the classic style i love so I might be biased. I believe the "timing mechanic" adds a lot of depth and satisfying gameplay.”
  • "Absolute sh— parry timing indicators c– and not at all consistent. Since that’s readily apparent as the one best method for playing, I am mystified no-one in QA remarked on how shitty that system was.”
  • “Half JRPG, half Elden Ring and it’s not even good. […] The action game element determines the entire combat. If you’re good at it your characters are immortal, and if you screw up their number drops to zero really fast…

III. Game Technical and Developer Performance

The game also had been technically perfoming middle of the arrow with missing reactions,k although it mostly was a smooth experience especially those with high end PC, some did have CTDs, UI bugs and optimization issues.

💬Players Feedback Highlights

  • “This great rpg game is what Ubisoft dev's are capable of when they're not held back by that terrible company.”
  • “They left Ubisoft and their first game is a master piece.”
  • “The game locks itself into 30 FPS and hides the majority of advanced settings when it recognizes the Deck. But the good news is: you can get full settings unlocked and fine-tune your gaming performance.
  • “This game is fine! If it’s about specs, don’t let people scare you away from playing. I'm getting smooth 79-80fps at 1440p.”
  • “Global FOV breaks once the fight ends. Restarting the game was the only way to fix and that'll be until another fight is completed."
  • "Another game ruined by stupid platforming and accessibility.

Final Thoughts

What to Expect

Though such title is globally FraptorGames, you know that it too has its own below par aspect. While this game excels in art direction, music and nostalgic charm, it ever so slightly stumbles in accessibility, combat balance and technical polish. We think the developers put a lot of heart into the experience, but without better support for players who enjoy playing with varying playstyles and different ways they need to play in order to enjoy it, then what you end up having is only certain groups of people can experience that.

If you’re the type of player who adores nippy reflexes, relishes difficult turn-based combat and can forgive tiptoes across technical potholes, there’s tons to love. Others, especially those looking for a more welcoming or strategic or laid-back JRPG experience, are just likely to find the game far more frustrating than fun. Feedback must be taken on this game, so tell us what you think.

Thanks.
